Children’s Quran Memorization Project

1. About the Project:

*Huffaz in Syria* is one of the projects of the Iqra Foundation. Established in late 2015, this project focuses on teaching Quran memorization, tajweed (recitation rules), and regularly testing and monitoring students to ensure continuous improvement.

Project Objectives:

The primary goal of the project is to help the next generation, both boys and girls under the age of 15, memorize the Quran by heart. Since memorization alone is not enough to elevate a generation, we aim to apply what students learn by instilling Quranic teachings through modern methods suited to the needs of this generation. The true purpose of Quran memorization is to adhere to its teachings and live by its guidance. Additionally, we seek to support those dedicated to Quran memorization with a modest monthly allowance as a means of encouragement and motivation to continue their journey.

Among our objectives is to instill consistency in the students by enrolling them in Quranic study circles, which become a fundamental part of their lives. Furthermore, we work on developing both our students and staff, conducting various competitions in memorization, sports, and culture, while regularly testing our staff’s skills and encouraging them to acquire new ones.

Key Office Responsibilities:

– Monthly testing of students
– Distributing monthly support of $10 to each student
– Handling administrative work related to tests and documentation
– Organizing various educational courses to enhance students’ knowledge of Islamic sciences
– Conducting weekly sports activities
– Training the project’s football team
– Holding diverse Quranic, academic, and religious competitions and honoring top performers
– Organizing recreational and educational activities for students

2. Staffing:

As of this report, the Huffaz Project in Azaz employs two staff members.

3. Success of the Project:

The success of any project is evident in the degree to which it achieves its purpose. The primary goal of this project is to enable students to memorize the Quran. In 2024 alone, over 220 boys and girls completed Quran memorization. We ask Allah to bless and uplift them through what they have learned.

4. Need for the Project:

The need for the project stems from the necessity of adhering to the Quran. The absence of this adherence can be profoundly damaging, as nothing is more detrimental to the Islamic community than distancing from the Book of Allah. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “I leave with you two weighty things: the first is the Book of Allah, in it is guidance and light, so take it and adhere to it.”

Supporting children in their Quran memorization journey is a significant contribution toward rekindling the bond with the Book of Allah and holding firm to its teachings.

5. Benefit to the Community:

Pursuing knowledge in all its forms adds maturity and progress to a society when used appropriately. The knowledge of the Quran—the supreme and noblest of sciences—produces a community with advanced ethics, wisdom, and purpose, bringing forth a message of guidance for humanity derived from the Creator. This aspiration can only be achieved by practicing what is in the Book of Allah. We seek, with Allah’s help, to memorize the Quran and apply its teachings to the best of our ability, praying for guidance, success, and acceptance.
